Thomas Stanford served in the Revolutionary War in the South Carolina Line. He served from February 1776 through 1781.He was granted a pension on June 10, 1837 for $50.00 per annum, payable semi-annually. Thomas' last payment was for Mar 4, 1843 through Sep 1843 and was madeat Tuscaloosa, AL. At that time, he was 87years old and resided in FayetteCo.,AL. This evidently was his last payment as he did not appear on the 1850 Census.
After the Rev. War, Thomas is nextmentioned on 12-5-1788 when he sold the200 acres inherited from his father toa William Dunn. (Deed Book H, p. 339, Chester Co., SC Courthouse). He and Martha bought and sold several other pieces of property from 1788 to 1805 in Chester Co., SC.
About 1809/1810 Thomas andMartha emigrated to Giles Co., TN along with several other Stanford families where they settled on Indian Creek at the ford, three miles southwest of the present Bee Springs Methodist Church. A Methodist Church was organized in their home as early as 1810/1811.
Between October 1818 and November 1819, the Stanfords migrated to Marion Co., AL settlingin Beaverton, now in Lamar Co., AL.AfterMartha's death in 1821, Thomas livedwith his daughter, Martha Malloy, and Mourning Harrell (his niece).
