Asa had several deeds as grantor and grantee, the last one as grantor to Nelson Moore on 27 May 1844, which may have been about the time Elisha Chambers moved to Benton County, Arkansas. He later moved to Burke County, Illinois, and then came from Burke County, Arkansas, to Vermillion County, Illinois, about 1830. By 1850, he had moved to Navarro County, Texas. His son, Asa, who may have gone to Benton County with his father, is shown receiving a land grant dated 15 April 1850 for 640 acres in the Mercer Colony, Navarro County, Texas.

Asa Chambers became postmaster on 30 August 1854 and was Confederate States Postmaster, serving until 11 January 1862. The settlement of Pisgah Ridge is said to have grown up around the store of Asa Chambers from whence the mail was distributed. Records show that G. W. Chambers, age 16, was discharged from the military on 18 June 1862 as a minor. He was originally sworn in the Confedrate Army on 23 October 1861 for 12 months and was put with Company E, 13th Texas Infantry Regiment. It is thought he may have re-enlisted and died in the Civil War since he was not on the 1870 census of Navarro or surrounding counties. This information comes from the book "Confederate Guns of Navarro County, Texas" by John W. Spencer and Dorothy Rimmer, a descendant of Chambers and Anderson.
